About Meridians Psychology
Hi, I’m LeONARD ROLLA
I am a Counselling Psychologist, based in Edinburgh. I have worked for over 10 years in a variety of services such as the adult mental health services in NHS, the Family Court and the charitable sector. I have helped and supported families, teenagers and adult clients struggling with a variety of complex mental health issues.
I have enjoyed working with such diversity and I am grateful to what my clients have taught me about their lives, and myself.
INSPIRATION
I grew up between Africa, South America and Europe, travelling between countries with my family. I witnessed the wounds left by civil wars, military regimes, and the “normal” day to day life of western countries.
Many of those carrying the wounds of those experiences were mothers, many were fathers, many were their children. Trauma tear apart entire families, and with them, entire communities.
Trauma can hold people back from pursuing their aspirations, their passions, standing for themselves and get their basic needs being met. Trauma can make it impossible to bond with and trust others, leading to loneliness, depression and anger.
Overtime, the sorrow for the destructive impact of trauma has developed into curiosity, a need for understanding and a desire to act.
Over the years, I have trained in and specialised in treating cPTSD and childhood developmental trauma.
Therapy can help understand our response to trauma, and change the person we have become in response to it. And it could help you too.
I am passionate about enabling people to overcome trauma and find security, confidence and joy in being themselves.
Values and missioN
I strongly believe that we cannot aspire to contribute to the development of a resilient, cohesive, and healthy society without reflecting on and addressing the causes of trauma.
My professional and personal life has made me experience the detrimental effect that PTSD and intergenerational trauma - the transmission of trauma between generations of the family - have not only on individuals but also on entire communities.
My mission is to help individuals heal the wounds of trauma and be their whole self. I want to help people transform trauma into an opportunity to grow.
Alongside my clinical work in the NHS, I dedicate time to working in the charity sector. I am a trustee for a charity helping families in need of support.
